Talkzone

Talkzone is a free counselling service for  young people aged 16-25 living within Bassetlaw. Talkzone can offer counselling sessions at different places within the Bassetlaw area, however we do not offer counselling sessions within the home. Appointments can be offered at different times and days during the week. What is counselling? Counselling is a way of addressing problems you may be experiencing, or have experienced in the past, by talking them through with someone who is able to be supportive, but who is not directly involved in the situation. These problems can include relationship breakdowns, bereavement, depression, bullying, eating disorders, feelings of sadness, anger , anxiety , low self-worth, self-harming, sexual orientation and abuse issues. A counsellor will not make any judgements about you or what you say . They will give you the opportunity to express your feelings, help you to explore and understand your difficulties as well as help and support you to try and find ways of managing these more effectively . All Talkzone Counsellors work within the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) ethical framework for good practice. They are trained and experienced and will always respect your right to make your own decisions. Will I feel better straight away? Some people feel better when they begin counselling, this maybe because they are being listened to for the first time, or because they have been struggling for a long time. Other people may feel more anxious or distressed when they start, because they are talking about difficult feelings that, in some way, they would prefer to ignore. In this situation, they may feel worse before they start to feel better. It’s always best to share with the counsellor any concerns you have about how you are reacting to the counselling. How can I make an appointment? You can be referred to Talkzone by your Doctor, Support Worker, Social Worker or any agency or person who is offering you support or you can refer yourself.  All referrals are treated in the strictest confidence.  To make a referral, please call Talkzone on 01909 530943 or The Centre Place on 01909 479191. You can also text your details to 07538318462 or email us at info@centreplace.org.uk and we will get back to you as soon as we can. What happens next? Once you have been referred to Talkzone, you will be offered an initial assessment appointment within a maximum of 6 weeks. This will give you the opportunity to meet with a Counsellor and look at the issues you wish to bring to counselling. You may have to wait to start your counselling depending on our waiting list. Full details of the waiting times will be given at your assessment appointment. Your counselling sessions will be on a one to one basis with just yourself and your counsellor present. The sessions will take place once a week and last for approximately 50 minutes each time. You will be offered sessions for 6-12 weeks to start with, this will then be reviewed, and additional sessions can be offered if you and your Counsellor feel they are needed.   Confidentiality Whatever you tell your counsellor is confidential, however there may be times when some information needs to be shared with others. This will be explained at your assessment, or you can contact us for more information on this. No letters or information will be sent out to your home address for appointments without your permission.
